Gender Identity

Distribution of self-reported gender identities among survey respondents. The sample includes seven distinct gender categories, reflecting the diversity of the community surveyed.

Race/Ethnicity

Racial and ethnic composition of the community sample. To be eligible for the survey, participants were required to identify as Black or Hispanic/Latino — the two racial/ethnic groups prioritized by the EHE initiative in this region.

Sexual Orientation

Self-reported sexual orientation of respondents. Understanding orientation helps contextualize PrEP awareness and uptake patterns across groups disproportionately affected by HIV.

Age Distribution

Histogram showing the age distribution of participants. The sample skews younger, consistent with populations most at risk for HIV and targeted by PrEP outreach efforts.

Education Level

Highest education level completed by respondents. Education may influence health literacy, PrEP awareness, and ability to navigate healthcare systems.

Employment Status

Current employment status of respondents. Employment relates to insurance access, income stability, and ability to maintain consistent PrEP use.

Household Income

Annual household income categories. Income is a key social determinant of health that can influence PrEP access, insurance coverage, and healthcare utilization.

Relationship Status

Current relationship status of respondents. Relationship context can affect sexual risk behaviors, partner communication about PrEP, and prevention decision-making.

Housing Insecurity (Past 3 Months)

Whether respondents experienced housing instability in the past three months. Housing insecurity is a structural barrier that can disrupt PrEP adherence and healthcare engagement.

Living Situation

Current living arrangements of respondents. Living situation provides context for stability, privacy, and social support available for health management.

Key Finding: The community sample (N=397) is predominantly young (mean age 26.8 years), with 55.2% identifying as cisgender men and 56.4% identifying as Hispanic/Latino (not Black). Housing insecurity affected 29% of participants in the past three months, underscoring the structural vulnerabilities that can disrupt PrEP access and adherence.
